PHYSICAL CONDITION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Gokyo Lake & Gokyo Peak Trek- 14 days is a moderate trek. Travelers who can walk up to 6-7 hours a day on an uphill and downhill trail will find this trek fulfilling. It is best that we prepare ourselves for the Annapurna trek by jogging and exercising regularly at least a month prior to the start of the trek. Trekking to the Everest Base Camp should be relatively easier for those who have experience walking/trekking in a high altitude environment. Past hiking experience would be an asset but no technical skill is required for this trip. It is also important that we consult our doctor. Participants with pre-existing medical conditions such as heart, lung, and blood diseases should inform Discovery Mountai Trek before booking the trek.
BEST TIME TO TRAVEL
The best time to trek to the Everest 3 High Passes Trek is Spring (February to May) and Autumn (September to November). The temperature is moderate in these seasons and guarantees amazing views through the trip. Although this trek can be undertaken during winter, the cold temperature might not be suitable for everyone.
LEADER(S) & STAFF ARRANGEMENTS
The most significant thing that makes this trek enjoyable and memorable is the skilled, experienced, courteous and helpful leader(s) and crew members who have the ability of guiding our trek on the mountain smoothly. Our trip will be led by the best and most professional leaders. All of Discovery Mountain leaders are carefully selected on the basis of their appropriate experience, leadership skills and personal aptitude. With an objective of sustaining local communities, Discovery Mountain only employs local staff who have adequate knowledge about culture, ecosystem, flora, fauna, geography, and history of their local region(s). The trek and expedition leaders have undergone the following trainings:
We are firmly committed to porter rights. We make sure that all our porters are well treated, well paid and we provide the level of shelter, clothing and footwear that these harsh environments demand. Porters who become sick are treated with the same care and attention as other team members and we have previously used helicopters – at our expense – to rescue porters from dangerous situations. We support the work of the International Porter Protection Group (IPPG), making our resources available to them to help improve the working conditions of the porters. (International Porters Progress Group.
The Everest Region is stunningly beautiful, but equally fragile. Future generations have just as much of a right to appreciate it as much as we do. Therefore, we believe that the tourism industry has an obligation to protect and preserve it. Discovery Mountain employs a ‘zero impact’ policy on the natural environment and the traditional communities that live there. Discovery Mountain, therefore, enforces a number of do’s and don’ts. Please talk to your trek leader to avoid environmental impacts.
It is a condition upon joining any of Discovery Mountain’s trips that all clients be insured for comprehensive expenses that might incur due to medical issues or accidents (this includes air ambulance, helicopter rescue, and treatment costs). Please note that we don’t arrange or sell insurance.
This trek’s itinerary is planned with a high degree of awareness of AMS (Acute Mountain Sickness). Going up at higher altitudes too fast causes a medical condition serious enough to result in death. The higher the altitude, the less oxygen will be in the air. For example, at an altitude above of 5000m, there is 50% less oxygen than at sea level. Therefore, our body needs many days to adapt to an environment with less oxygen. During this trip, we take rest in Namche Bazaar and Dingboche which will help us acclimatize to the high altitude.
EQUIPMENTS & PACKING LIST
This list is a guideline to help you pack for your adventure. Also understand that the items listed below will vary a little according to the season and the trek duration. Those items marked by an asterisk (*) are provided by Discovery Mountain inclusive in the service. The weight limit for your luggage is 15 kg. Remember that your luggage will be carried by your porter but you are required to carry a day-pack (with your valuables or anything important) on your own. We also suggest that you pack only what is necessary.

Such conditions may arise even in the best seasons. Hence, in such cases, you must be prepared for long waits either at Kathmandu or Lukla airports, as this can happen either at the start or end of the trek or even both! We will do our best to avoid such delays, and arrange the next flight for you. We also organize Helicopter rescue in such conditions, if it is available and upon request by our clients. we suggest you to be prepared for possible delays/cancellations, and if possible to come with some extra buffer days (1-2 days) at the end of the trip to accommodate such delays. If everything runs smoothly and you still have a few days of your buffer days left then you may even engage yourself in optional activities which can be arranged by Discovery Mountain upon request. The optional activities may include visiting places/landmarks of your choice, adventure sports, shopping, etc. In case the flight delay/cancellation happens at the start of trip and it goes so long that it disturbs your onward travel schedule, you are free to choose an alternative trip such as a trek in the Annapurna, Langtang, or any other region. If you lose time waiting at the airport and do not take an alternative tour or you only do a short trek later due to time limitation. If the cancellation happens before the trip, we will provide you accommodation and lunch in a guesthouse in Kathmandu. In case of the flight delay/cancellation after finishing of the trek, you will be responsible for all your expenses. Please also note that you will not be entitled to any refund for the services (such as hotel, transport, flight, etc.) included in the package that you would not use later.
THE TREKKING GROUP
For this trek there will be one leader, assistant leader (4 trekkers: 1 assistant guide) and Sherpa porters for carrying luggage (2 trekkers: 1 porter). This arrangement ensures that should anybody in the group get sick, the trip can still go ahead as planned. We can run the trek for groups of any size but we after years of experience we have found a maximum of twelve people to be the optimum size for a successful trip. However, if you’d like to book this trip for a larger group then that can be arranged too.
And I big hope you will have very good trek with enjoyment and run smoothly in advance.

Trekking to Everest Base Camp is a priority for nearly every visitor to Nepal. Located at the foot of Mt. Everest, reaching the base camp gives you a sense of rare satisfaction and adventure. This destination in eastern Nepal lies in Solukhumbu district at an altitude of 5,360 meters. The base camp is a place of never-ending excitement over-flowing with people from many countries speaking as many languages. For a location that is so geographically isolated, it is a unique melting pot that attracts thousands of aspiring climbers every year. Join the team of Discovery Mountain and see yourself how diverse the place is.
At the base camp you will begin the day with a panoramic view of the mighty peaks of Khumbu. More than a hundred peaks ranging from 3,500 meters to the highest one on the planet are visible – like a cascade of never-ending pyramids. And the thought of sleeping beneath Mt. Everest – the crowning glory of it all – is definitely an attraction that is too tempting to resist.
Take this trip to Sagarmatha National Park to see Ama Dablam, Cho Oyu, Cholatse, Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Makalu and several other peaks of Khumbu. And When you talk about mountains, you can never miss the “Sherpa” – the native inhabitants of these lands and legendary conquerors of mountains. In Khumbu, you will see how the Sherpa live and what cultures they follow. A rich tapestry of festivals and languages, an experience of Khumbu is something you will not forget for a long time.
To visit the Everest Base Camp, you will need a good level of physical fitness and a regular walking habit. As you will be expected to walk around five hours on daily average, these lands will certainly test your stamina. However, to keep up with the energy levels and to adapt in higher altitudes, we have included sufficient days for acclimatization during the trip. Everest Base Camp is best visited in summer and in autumn.
The program begins with a 40-minute flight from Kathmandu to Tenzing-Hillary Airport in Lukla. The exciting flight will seemingly teleport you from the busy city to the quiet mountainside. From Lukla you will begin the trek to Phakding, and on to Namche, the Sherpa capital of Nepal. From there you will hike further up to Dingboche, Gorakshep and ultimately to the Everest Base Camp. In a matter of two weeks you will visit to the top of the world and back, returning with a rich experience of Nepal.
After your arrival at Kathmandu International Airport, we will pick you up and transfer you to the hotel. You can spend the evening around Thamel.
After breakfast, get on a pre-booked 30-minute flight from Kathmandu. This scenic flight will take you to Lukla, where your trekking guides will receive you at the airport. An easy trek of around three hours will bring you to the village of Phakding at the banks of Dudh-Koshi river, where you will stop for the night.
Begin an early trek along Dudh-Koshi, criss-crossing it several times. Today the destination is Namche Bazaar, the fabled village in the heart of the mountains. The trail is initially lined by views of Mt. Thamserku, and on a really clear day, even Mt. Everest is visible in the distance. As you reach closer to Namche, you will find the trail winding up with approaching views of Everest-Nuptse Wall, Mt. Lhotse and several other peaks. Once at Namche, relax in a hot bath, surf the Internet, enjoy a cup of cappuccino and then call it day.
Take a day off at Namche and enjoy the quiet lifestyle in stark contrast to your regular routine. In the morning, have a hearty breakfast with views of magnificent peaks. Later in the day, take short hikes in and around the town – and savour the beauty that is Namche. This is an important day of rest as it will help you acclimatize at the altitude and help you warm up the muscles for an exciting expedition ahead.
Starting off from Namche we take an easy ascending trail with views of Everest, Lhotse, and Nuptse peaks. Crossing several villages, we arrive at Dhudh Koshi river, cross it and come to Phunki. From there we climb along a yak trail to arrive at Tengboche, home of the iconic Tengboche Monastery at the shadow of the Himalayan peaks. Some peaks visible from Tengboche are Ama Dablam, Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse and Taboche. After a brief stop at Tengboche, we descend to the quiet hamlet of Deboche. Here we will stay for the night.
After leaving Deboche early, our trail passes through more rhododendron forests – the colour and hues of which will make you feel inside a fairy tale! But this happens in the spring when rhododendrons are in bloom, not on the fall season. Further along the route, we will criss-cross the river and arrive at a hamlet where we will have lunch overlooking the tiny valley below. From there it is an easy hike downhill beside a ridge until we arrive at the village of Dingboche where we will stay a tea-house or a lodge.
Wake up early and have a hearty breakfast. If you are the early-bird, you will be pleased to watch a sunrise from the eight-thousanders. Leaving Dingboche, the trail is easy and comfortable at first. The open blue skies and the sunlight will inspire you to move ahead and of course, take some pictures too. In a dramatic change of landscape you will find yourself in open spaces among the mountains and high-altitude terrains. Vegetation gets thinner almost coming to a nil. With brief stopovers and trek and more stops and more treks, you will arrive at the the Memorial Hill. From there we trek to the village of Dughla where we’ll stay for the night.
Starting from Dughla in the morning the trek is relatively easy at first, going through inclines and declines. As you move forward, you will see a fresh lining of snow over the mountains overhead, carried by the wind. The views throughout the four hour trek are crisp and sublime. We first ascend to a lateral section of the Khumbu Glacier coming to a ridge. Ahead you will come face to face with Pumori, Khumbutse, and several other peaks. Cross the glacier, have wonderful views of Nutpse, and then descend a bit to Lobuche. Here you will stay for the night.
Start at a leisurely pace today. Have a leisurely breakfast, take some photos, and pack your bags. At a normal pace, today it’s six to seven hours of walk. The terrain is mostly rough and rocky today, with a walk over glacial paths. Once we reach the Base Camp at 5,360 meters, we take a break and enjoy the scenery and let the surrounding views pass into your long-term memory. Indelible views of Pumori, Nuptse and other peaks are spellbinding! From there, get back to Gorakshop and stay at a lodge.
Get up before dawn so that you can catch one of the most amazing sunrises in the mountains. For that, you need to hike up to the vantage point of Kalapatthar located at 5,545 meters. Just before sunrise, arrive at Kalapatthar where you’ll see a mesmerizing and colourful sunrise. Try as you might, you can’t not take out your camera and click away till the battery drains. The panoramic views of Everest, Pumori and other giants will leave a mark on your memory. From Kalapatthar, return to Gorakshep, have a hearty breakfast and descend to the village of Pheriche.
After a leisurely breakfast, we pack the bags and leave Pheriche headed to Kyangjuma. Kyangjuma is located at an altitude of 3,570 meters with wonderful close-up views of Mount Ama Dablam. Starting from Pheriche we first trek along a river and then through an alpine forest. As we descend along the trail, vegetation begins to appear and the forest begins to thicken. Including brief stops for tea and lunch, we then descend to Pangboche, and Deboche, cross Tengboche and later arrive at Kyangjuma for the night.
First we begin easy. Then we take a gradual ascent and then a gradual descent. This keeps on happening through the trail across the forest and the turns until we arrive at Namche Bazaar. After a stop here, we trek down to Phakding by crossing the Dudh Koshi River and pass through monasteries among Sherpa settlements. We finally arrive at Phakding where we stay for the night in a lodge.
As we come near the end of trekking in this program, you will enjoy today’s trek more than before. The trail from Phakding to Lukla is an average one with gradual uphills and some level grounds. First you will cross a suspension bridge and then cross several colorful villages. The walk is joyous today with under four hours of trek. Later in the afternoon we arrive at Lukla. Spend the rest of the day sharing your stories in a bar, or enjoy as you see fit.
Go to Tenzing-Hillary Airport in Lukla in the morning, and catch a flight back to Kathmandu. The scenic flight is around 40 minutes, a whisk that will bring you back to bustling Kathmandu. Later in the day we will go on a sightseeing tour of some iconic places in the Kathmandu Valley, that will essentially include UNESCO World Heritage sites. In the evening, you are invited to join us for a farewell dinner.
According to your schedule, we will take you to the airport for your flight ahead.
I would like to thank Discovery mountain trek & expedition for this well organized and comfortable trek plan. You did everything possible to make us trek an incredible one. We were doubtful in choosing this agency at first, but their online correspondence was so good that I chose them over the other agencies. I encounter other trekkers from all over the world in this trek. The view from Kalapatthar was something that will always be with us throughout our lifetime. We got to witness the beautiful sunsets among the most majestic mountains – Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse and many more…
“We have done a wonderful trekking tour in sumptuous and breathtaking view even: valleys, monasteries, snow capped mountain…. Thank you to Chirri and his team, always present, attentive who accompanied us well.
We are already making an appointment for a future trip. “
